About Rovers Return

Hi, my name is Sam. I am qualified in pet dog training, and behaviour work and I work with hard-working paw parents and their families, helping you with dogs that display challenging behaviours or just want to learn how to train their pooches.

This is my story of how I became involved with dogs.

After 13 years of working in a high pressure, challenging job, I decided that it was time for a change. My goal at that stage was to become a dog groomer!

I have had dogs in my life for as long as I remember. My grandma showed and raced whippets, and we had dogs growing up.

Then I had 2 puppies of my own, Bert and Ernie.

After initial success with recall, Ernie had reached his teenage stage and was running off to other dogs.

So I purchased a dog training book to help me train him, but unfortunately, unbeknown to me, the book promoted punishment, and the method I used to try and get him to stop running away, only made him scared and he ran further away. I felt so bad that I had scared him so much that he would not come near me.

This event made me want to learn more so I began a dog behaviour course.

This course created something powerful within me.

I knew I wanted to educate people in positive reward-based training and away from punishment so that their dogs don’t experience fear, similar to what I put my dog through.

I have spent the last few years learning as much as I can about dogs and their brains and how emotions affect behaviour, using only kind and effective methods that transform behaviour without the use of harmful equipment or animal abuse.

I stand against the use of punishment and promote holistic, kind, fair and effective training.

I have helped many owners like you transform their dog’s behaviour and enrich their dogs’ lives.

After completing foundation puppy training, advanced dog training and further advanced dog training courses with APDT UK I passed my membership and became a full member. The APDT UK is a professional industry standards organisation.

The APDT supply and promote progressive, science and evidence-based training methods for the benefit of dogs, their owners, veterinary practices, rehoming centres and other organisations and assess dog training instructors in their knowledge and skills in order to maintain the highest dog training standards.

I am qualified in behaviour modification. Thus is different to dog training as it deals with the dogs underlying emotions.

I have a diploma (level 6) with The ISCP and am Pro Dog Trainer Geek certified.

Changing the underlying emotional issues the dog’s behaviour will change.
